Bonjour Fifi, tu es notre « française des USA », tu es née en France ?
Je suis née et j’ai grandi à Paris.

I was born and raised in Paris.

Depuis combien de temps vis-tu aux Etats-Unis ?
Je vis aux USA depuis 30 ans. Avant de déménager pour les USA je vivais au Canada et avant ça en Suisse.
For how long do you live in the USA ?
I have been living in the States for 30 years. Before moving to the States I lived in Canada and before that in Switzerland.

Quel a été ton parcours ?
Mes débuts ont été dans le journalisme et mon premier job était à La Tribune de Lausanne il y a très très longtemps. Deux ans après je suis allée au Canada où j’ai travaillé dans plusieurs agences de pub. J’ai travaillé pour beaucoup de magazines américains comme styliste d’intérieur, rédactrice et éditrice pour la maison le jardin et la cuisine. Après m’être installée aux USA j’ai écrit pour plusieurs journaux et magazines et fait du stylisme pour des magazines de déco et de cuisine. Puis j’ai finalement été éditrice pour un magazine de déco basé à New York. En avril j’ai fondé un nouveau magazine appelé Romantic Prairie Style. J’ai également repris récemment le poste de rédacteur en chef pour le magazine Romantic Country et je vais créer un autre magazine French Country Style. Tout cela a pris du temps. Il m’a fallu 25 ans pour en arriver là. Je travaille aussi pour pas mal de magazines européens (France, Allemagne, Danemark, Hollande, Italie et Belgique). Les magazines en France sont Maison Romantique et Maison Chic.
What is your track ?
My background is in journalism. My first job was with La Tribune de Lausanne, many many years ago. When I moved to Canada I worked for several advertising agencies I have worked with numerous magazines in the USA as a photo stylist, writer and editor for homes, gardens and food. From Paris I moved to Lausanne, Switzerland. My very first job was as a writer for the Lausanne Tribune. After 2 years I moved to Canada where I worked as a photo stylist and writer for a number of advertising agencies. Then after settling in the US I wrote for numerous newspapers and magazines and also styled interiors and food features. Eventually I began the editor of a New York based home magazine and as of this past April, I founded a new magazine, aptly titled Romantic Prairie Style. I recently also took back the editor's position for Romantic Country magazine and in the process to launch yet another new magazine: French Country Style. None of this is and "overnight" success. In fact, it took 25 years to get to this point. I also work with several European magazines (France, Germany, Denmark, Holland, Italy, Belgium...). The French magazines are Maison Romantique et Maison Chic.

Tu es la reine du Prairie style, qu’est ce qui t’as inspirée pour écrire Romantic Prairie Style ? Et ensuite The romantic Prairie cook book ?
L’idée m’est venue alors que je réfléchissais sur les éléments de décoration qui me plaisait le plus, le coté doux des choses rustiques, une déco simple sans prétention, imaginative, ingénieuse, créer un intérieur chaleureux avec le charme du passé, avec des meubles peu onéreux. J’ai alors fait des recherches sur la définition de ce qu’on appelle le Country style. Ça m’a menée à la déco Homespun des objets décoratifs fait main et le style européen qui caractérise les intérieurs des pionniers qui sont arrivés dans les immenses prairies d’Amérique et du Canada. Ça illustre parfaitement le besoin d’un retour aux sources, a un mode de vie simple, l’envie de retrouver les vraies valeurs, la famille, les traditions, de construire des maisons et non plus des abris. Mon deuxième livre sur la cuisine m’est venu tout naturellement et découle du premier.
You are the Prairie style Queen, what inspires you to whrite The Romantic Prairie style en then The Romantic Prairie cook book ?
The idea for Romantic Prairie Style came to me while I was thinking of the decorating elements that most appeal to me: the softer side of rugged, lack of pretension, imaginative and ingenious ways of creating a cozy interior with the timeless charms of simple, inexpensive furnishings. I began to research the origin of what is known as "country style" and that lead me to the homespun interiors, handmade items and European influences that characterized the homes of the early pioneers who settled in the American (and Canadian) prairies. It illustrates the need for a return to a simpler way of life, a desire to reconnect with real values: family, tradition, preservation, and the longing to create homes, not just shelters. The cookbook was a natural progression as it goes hand in hand with to the prairie lifestyle of the first book.

Depuis le mois d’avril tu as créé un nouveau magazine, Romantic Prairie style, et un site internet Romantic Prairie style, comment ça fonctionne ?
La première édition du magazine Romantic Prairie Style est un immense succès, les lecteurs étaient tout à fait prêts à accueillir ce nouveau genre de magazine qui n’existait pas sur le marché et je suis certaine qu’ils ne seront pas déçus par le second magazine qui regorge d’articles plein de bonnes idées.
Since april you create a new paper magazine Romantic Prairie style , and a website Romantic Prairie style how does it work ?
The premiere issue of the magazine (Romantic Prairie Style) is a huge success. Readers were so ready for this type of magazine because there is nothing like it. I know they will not be disappointed by the next issue as it is full of fabulous features and ideas.

Est-ce possible de la France de s’abonner à ton magazine Romantic Prairie Style ?

As-tu une autre passion que la décoration ?
La cuisine et le jardinage, trouver du temps pour combiner les deux est un réel luxe!
Do you have other passion than decorating ?
Food and gardening. However, finding the time to indulge in either is now a rare luxury!

C’est quoi pour toi des vacances de rêve ?
Rien que ça un rêve, je n’ai pas pris de vacances depuis 7 ans, mais si j’avais le temps pour une escapade j’adorerais passer deux semaines chez ma soeur en Provence, parcourir les champs de lavande, écouter les cigales, manger des moules frites et boire du bon vin « c’est simple mais merveilleux ! »
What is your dream holidays ?
Just that: a DREAM! I have not taken a holiday in 7 years but if I ever get the time to escape I would love to spend 2 weeks with my sister in Provence, walk through the fields of lavender, listen to the cigales, eat moules frites and enjoy some bon vin.....c'est simple mais merveilleux!

Est-ce que tu penses un jour revenir en France ?
Oui j’y pense souvent car pour moi comme pour ma sœur le temps passe et ça serait si bon de vivre l’une à côté de l’autre. La famille est très importante pour moi, j’ai deux grand fils, un ici et l’autre au Canada, et ça serait un vrai dilemme pour moi si j’habitais en France près de ma sœur mais si loin de mes fils ! Mais je suis encore loin de prendre ma retraite, mais on ne sait pas ce que l’avenir nous réserve ! Pour le moment je skype tous les jours avec ma sœur !
Do you imagine one day coming back to France ?
Yes, I often think about it because as my sister and I get older it would be lovely to live close to each other. Family means the world to me. I have 2 grown sons (one here, the other in Canada) so it's a bit of a dilemma as if/when I moved back to France I will be close to my sister but far from my sons. Right now I am not even close to retiring. But, who knows what life has in store? So, for now, my sister and I "skype" everyday
